For many years the LCOS took part in the charity days run by Ayudar Jugando, a Barcelona-based NGO that organises charity gaming events. In 2022 we decided to run our own: the Mishra’s Day, a day with simultaneous Old School and Premodern tournaments where every penny raised goes to an NGO.

We held the first edition last December and it was a genuine success. We had 57 entrants and ended up donating more than 1,700 euros to the Lliga per a la protecció d’animals i plantes de Barcelona. Not only did we do our bit to help that organisation’s work, it was also a celebration of the old-border community — whether 93/94 or later — a day we shared with friends from here and from other communities and countries. If election day is “the festival of democracy”, then that day was “the festival of cardboard”… It is not a very strong analogy. I will work on it.

Here is a table of contents so you can jump straight to whichever section you need:

Location

This year’s Mishra’s Day takes place on Saturday 2 December at Restaurant Foment in Molins de Rei.

General information

All proceeds from the day will be donated to Fundación Mona, an NGO that “rescues and rehabilitates primates, as well as carrying out important educational and scientific research work in primatology, animal welfare and environmental sustainability”. You can see more in this video:

Charity raffle

To raise a bit more, we will raffle off every donated card, other “Magic: The Gathering” items, Fundación Mona merchandise and a few other surprises. Some special items will also go to auction. Every registered player gets a raffle ticket, and you can donate an extra 5 euros for additional tickets.

Start time

15.00

Donations

We need you to donate cards so the raffle lives up to the event, so if you have something appealing, playable and good-looking and you fancy taking part, we would be delighted. Do not donate junk, do not be stingy — donate something you would be happy to win yourself 🙂

If you cannot make it to the event but would like to donate, or you would like a Mishra’s Day patch, email us at mishrasday@gmail.com and we will sort something out.

In short: this is a day worth spending the last of the year’s family points on. We already have confirmed attendance from players in other communities, from (card) dealers, and from people who are not tournament regulars but who will make the effort to come along on this one.

It is one of the best Magic days of the year — take our word for it. See you there on 2 December!
