On 3 September we played the last LCOS Premodern tournament of the summer. It was a fascinating day: a varied metagame and no idea who was taking the playmat home until the very end. After 5 rounds, this was the top 9:

Gerard Saborit tore through the Swiss with his Fluctuator, and Agus Arbol came second with a GW Threshold. Here is the two of them facing each other in round 3:

Carlos Orellana had a great tournament with a very personal take on Survival Rock. Here is his round 4:

Iñaki Puigdollers sweated buckets to get through the rounds, but he made the top with this UGW Turbolands, a.k.a. Oath the way the devil’s own Parfait would build it:

The top 8 gave us two intense semi-finals: Orellana against Saborit, taken 2-1 by the former after a long, hard-fought match, and Raul Roso against Iñaki, with Iñaki coming through another marathon. Personal commitments meant the final could not be played on the day, but a few days later Iñaki and Carlos played it out. Orellana looked to have game 1 sewn up until a brutal comeback from Iñaki stole it; game 2 was long and messy, and Carlos’s pressure earned him the point; and there was not much to say about game 3, where Orellana resolved a turn-one Cabal Therapy, stripped the two Oath of Druids out of Iñaki’s hand, and the rest is history.
