Helloooo everyoooone! Welcome to the first of what I hope will be many contributions to this wonderful site, dedicated to the best Premodern league I could possibly belong to: the LCOS Premodern league.

First of all, a quick aside to introduce myself. I am Yuse García: player, enthusiast and tournament organiser in this format of ours since mid-2021. It was love at first sight. I got into it because I still had the UG Madness cards lying around the house, and today I have more than 10 decks built. That first spark is what eventually pushed me into running tournaments in and around Granollers, to try to create, grow and strengthen the community here in the “bad” Vallès.

Which brings us to last June, when — after the success of the first Open — I decided to keep the concept going and started looking for a date for the second. In the end I settled on 17 September, since it did not clash with any other Premodern tournament (I could not avoid clashing with Old School, sorry about that).

The day arrives. It is warm, but not unbearably so. The venue opens on time. And a total of 18 Titans gather to slug it out and spend a great day surrounded by good people, camperos, good Premodern and an arcade machine for the downtime.

We played 5 rounds of Swiss cutting to a Top 8. And the first surprise was the metagame itself: 15 different archetypes, with only 3 repeated. And RG Goblins was not one of them! In Moria, the Gobbos decided to stay home and be represented by a single player (who was not me).

2 Elves! (una con NO)
2 UW Landstill
2 RG Pyrostatic Oath
1 RG Goblins
1 Pit Rack
1 UB Psychatog
1 Fluctuator
1 Gamekeeper Combo
1 UG Madness
1 Aluren
1 White Weenie
1 Dream Halls
1 MonoU Merfolks
1 Dragon Reanimator
1 Monoblack Reanimator

After 5 hard rounds of Swiss, with no delays and no incidents out of the ordinary, the dust settled and the Top 8 came into view — but not before the ritual raffles of packs and cards for everyone taking part.

Top 8 by Swiss standing:

Position Player Deck
1 Joe Gallego RG Pyrostatic Oath
2 Infinito de Cordoba Pit Rack
3 Javier Crespo Dream Halls
4 David González Gamekeepr Combo
5 Marc Pibernat UW Landstill
6 Fermín García UB Psychatog
7 Yuse García NO Elves
8 Jaume Aguila Elves

Out of those pairings came RG Pyrostatic Oath, Dream Halls, Pit Rack and UB Psychatog, who then met each other in that order, giving us a thrilling final between RG Pyrostatic Oath and Pit Rack.

At the end of the day, Joe Gallego and his RG Pyrostatic Oath were more than deserving winners, not dropping a single round all day and proving the deck is very much one to watch in tournaments to come.

Beyond the games, the day was full of funny stories, great conversations, an arcade machine running hot with games of Pang, good camperos and, above all, the best company you could ask for at an event like this (we even had people coming from the province of Zaragoza to play — thanks, Marcos).

There is not much left to add, except to thank you if you made it this far, to insist that if you can make it to any LCOS day in Barcelona you should not think twice (it really is worth it), and to hope we keep looking after this format and growing it, because it is the best thing I have played in maaaany years.
